Transportation Program Policies & Procedures
Fairfield Residents who are age 60+ or who have a disability are welcome to participate in the Fairfield Senior and Disabled Transportation Program. This program is intended and funded for those who DO NOT have any other means of transportation. Residents must complete and sign a Bigelow Center membership form and waiver form prior to riding. Once approved, passengers are registered with the service for one year. If staff determines that transportation is not appropriate, the resident is referred to alternative transportation.

We provide curb-to-curb service. Keep in mind that our transportation program is designed to promote mass transportation as well as meet individual medical appointment needs. Therefore, we ask that passengers be flexible when requesting a specific time.

Buses run Monday through Friday from 8:30 am to 3:30 pm. All appointments must conclude by 2:00 pm. Rides are provided for those traveling in Fairfield, which includes to and from the Bigelow Center, medical appointments and grocery shopping.

The driver’s instructions must be followed at all times. Your safety and the safety of our drivers is our utmost concern. Donations are gratefully accepted. Tipping of drivers is not allowed.

COST
Rides to the Bigelow Center for activities or meals and rides for shopping, are a suggested donation of $1 per trip. Riders use a 10-ride punch card for the suggested donation of $10 and are available from the Dispatch/Scheduler at the Bigelow Center. For those shoppers that do not come to the Bigelow Center, punch cards are available from the drivers.

BOARDING ASSISTANCE
Drivers shall position the bus to make boarding as easy as possible for everyone. Riders must be capable of entering and exiting the vehicle using the bus steps with handrails or with the assistance of a home health aide/companion. Riders may bring home health aides/companions with them on the bus free of charge. Riders who utilize a wheelchair receive assistance to enter the lift and are secured by the driver. After entering the vehicle, the driver secures all wheelchairs. For those riders who utilize a walker, the drivers take the walker on and off the bus for you. Riders utilizing a walker or those that do not have a mobility device who may need to use the lift, should inform the Dispatch when scheduling. Drivers are not permitted to bring riders into their appointments or their homes. Riders with disabilities shall be allowed adequate time to board or disembark a vehicle.
