Course Overview

The American Red Cross Lifeguarding – Deep Water course trains participants to recognize and respond to aquatic emergencies in a pool environment. This certification prepares lifeguards with the skills to prevent, respond to, and provide care for aquatic and medical emergencies until advanced medical personnel arrive.

Successful completion results in an American Red Cross certification in:
Lifeguarding (Deep Water)
CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer
First Aid
(All valid for 2 years.)

Prerequisites
Participants must:

Be at least 15 years old on or before the final scheduled session.
Successfully complete a prerequisite swim assessment on the first day of the course.
On the first day of class, participants must bring a valid photo ID and the completed confirmation email of blended portion from the Red Cross showing completion of the online portion in order to continue to the in-person skills session.

Prerequisite Swim Assessment Includes:

Swim 150 yards continuously, using front crawl and breaststroke, no backstroke or sidestroke
Tread water for 2 minutes using only legs.
Swim 50 more yards.
Swim 20 yards, surface dive to a depth of 7–10 feet, retrieve a 10-lb object, surface, and return to the starting point with both hands holding the object within 1 minute and 40 seconds. Goggles are not allowed for this event.

Course Requirements:
The primary email you provide in our system will be used both to send your receipt and to access the online portion of the class. If you prefer to use a different email for the course, please contact msachs@fairfieldct.org

Participants will receive an email a week before the class with access to the online blended portion. This email will be sent by “Salesforce Automation Account rclcsfteam@redcross.org” and may appear in the inbox or the spam/junk folder.

Reminders:

Participants who do not complete the online portion will not be admitted to the skills session.
There are no refunds for participants who have not completed the online portion.
